Middle C is recurrent throughout: Lama kuhikuhi is Hawaiian for beacon. Lama is a Hawaiian ebony, and also means torch or light. Lama wood is placed on the altar of Laka, as its name signifies enlightenment. Kuhikuhi means to teach, designate, or point out. Thus, the beacon shows the way of enlightenment.

Lake of a thousand hues from dawn to set of sun
Lake of silver and pearl as the course of the moon is run,
Lake with voice of thunder when wind and wave command,
Lake silent as time, still as space at rest on sand.

from The Seeker (excerpt)

The story about a bush pilot and a minister in a bar in Alaska: The pilot says to the minister, “I tried your God business but it didn’t work for me.” “Oh yeah?” says the minister, “Tell me about it.” “My plane went down in a blizzard. I couldn’t see a thing, all of the instruments dead. I got on my knees and said, ‘God, if you rescue me, I will believe.” “Well, here you are,” said the minster, “Surely you believe!” “Naw,” said the pilot, “Some Eskimo came along and showed me the way to the village.” I wrote Angels & Eskimos  in grateful acknowledgment of the many times I’ve been guided through the metaphorical blizzards of life.
